 Who is Barbarika

He aimed to eliminate the weaker side to end the fight without bloodshed.

Barbarika met Lord Krishna while heading to the battlefield. Lord Krishna knew about Barbarika’s unrivaled strength and his promise. Krishna understood that if Barbarika stepped in, the weaker side would win fast upsetting the war’s balance.

Krishna encountered Barbarika while pretending to be a Brahmin. He asked him about his goals to understand his dedication and figure out what he planned to do. Krishna then asked Barbarika to show his talent by using a single arrow to hit all the leaves on a tree nearby.

Barbarika was ready to shoot when Krishna hiding from view grabbed a leaf and put it under his foot. Barbarika fired, and the arrow didn’t just go through all the leaves he could see, but it also went around Krishna’s foot showing that the hidden leaf was there too.

Barbarika’s strength impressed and alarmed Krishna, who disclosed his real name and discussed the possible repercussions of Barbarika’s involvement in the conflict. Krishna requested Barbarika’s head as a sacrifice to avert the imbalance resulting from his involvement. Barbarika showed his utmost devotion and sacrifice to Krishna by offering his head to him without hesitation.

Satisfied by Barbarika’s unshakable dedication and selflessness, Krishna bestowed upon him a boon: Barbarika would be revered in the Kali Yuga (the current era) as Khatu Shyam Ji, and would be known by the name Shyam, another name for Krishna. Krishna declared that the requests of those who remember Barbarika with a pure heart and ask for his blessings will be granted.

Why is Khatu Shyam famous?

Sikar is a district of Rajasthan, the village Khatu is famous for the Khatu Shyam Ji temple. It is one of the most recognized sacred places for traveling for creating pilgrimages in Northern India.
